Early check from the Steam Boat Hermann.
A wonderful early check from the Steam Boat Hermann dated Oct. 7, 1852 to Oly Scott in the amount of $16.75 “for wages as Cabin boy”. The Hermann was a 194-ton Side Wheeler built in Louisville, KY in 1848. On March 3, 1853 she collided with and sank the Emma Watts on the Wabash River. Advertised Pittsburgh to St. Louis under the command of Capt. Kinkle in January 1856. She is off the lists as of 1857. The check is in sound condition with full corners, no tears or bends. A RARE one of a kind item with historical significance!
